Notes: A player and a bench jockey

All-Star game involves two Sassians

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Here for the Sass enjoyed watching the All Star game on Tuesday night. The 10 players who came form the National League spent most of the game taunting the 14 players who played for the American League (both Jermaine Dye and A.J. Pierzynski were down in the American League dugout, naturally). The National League held a 2-1 lead going into the ninth inning, when the American League went ahead 3-2, which was the final score.

“It was kinda embarrassing. We spent so much of the game taunting and suddenly we had to eat our words,” outfielder Adam Dunn said.

A.J. did not get to play in the game, while Jermaine had only one at-bat and limited time in the outfield. A.J. did not get to play due to the vast amount of bubble wrap around him. The Sass felt a little more comfortable removing layers if necessary, when Francisco Liriano made it to the All-Star team. However, since he was a reserve player, it was felt that A.J. was best served remaining in bubble wrap as long as possible.

“I was the reserve catcher,” A.J. said, “I was the third catcher, and it’s wise to have a back-up plan in case of injury, and I was it. I wish I could’ve gotten out there, but I have to understand my role. Just like poor Frisco. He should’ve been out there, too. I think the NL paid Ozzie so they wouldn’t have to face him.”

The team flew back to Minneapolis after the game on Tuesday.

Championship Round: The final round of the Sass Monopoly Championship round that will be held today at Sass Stadium. From all the games played on Monday and Tuesday, the players with the top scores advanced to the championship round, which will be held in Minneapolis today. All fans are invited out to Sass Stadium to watch this event. The event is free to all fans, but there will be places for donations to Sass Charities available throughout the stadium. Fans are encouraged to pledge amounts based on sassy things like “hotels bought by someone named Encarnacion” or “number of times Beth and Dawn make a boneheaded move in attempts to lose.”

Despite playing to lose, Beth and Dawn advanced to the final round of the Sass Monopoly Championship round.

“Did you ever have one of those games that no matter how hard you tried, you always ended up losing? Well, we had a couple of those games where no matter what we did, it turned out in our favor. We hate Monopoly! We don’t want to play anymore!” Dawn lamented.

They will play against Aaron Harang and Juan Encarnacion; Edwin Encarnacion and Ambiroix Burgos; Rach and T.; and Little Nicky Punto and Michael Cuddyer.

Adam and Jermaine are MCing the event, which lead many to believe that it could be the best non-baseball entertainment to be held in Minneapolis in the last ten years.

BFL Cellar: The Here for the Sass Team spent a great amount of time in the BFL Cellar earlier this year, and fully expect their difficult schedule might find them back there before the season ends. However, there may be a few changes. Currently, the Mmmm…Guinness team, under the direction of HeraldGuy, is in the cellar, and rumors are coming out that the wine collection, enjoyed by Dawn, is in serious condition.
