Notes: New front office personnel

After months, an accountant was hired
By Beth Sass / hereforthesass.blogspot.com

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Here for the Sass team announced on Thursday night that they had hired an accountant. Previously, pitcher Aaron Cook had been filling in the accounting role, but it seemed on days he pitched things would get behind, and he’d spend the next four days trying to catch up. As he got further behind, the Sass front office realized that a full-time accountant was needed. As the rumors of the position started rumbling, the Sass front office started getting resumes. One stood out, however, and olbiemn “T” was hired almost immediately.

“We’re looking forward to having her here. Aaron C. said he’d be happy to help out when needed, and he’ll be sure to help train her in, and show her our processes. We’re very excited to have T. on board,” Dawn said.

T. started immediately, and was there to greet the team as they returned to Minneapolis.

Party! Watching the game on Thursday, Beth and Dawn were stunned that Adam Dunn, who had gone 2-28 in his previous seven games, actually got a hit, and requested Clubhouse Manager Rach order cupcakes to celebrate. When Adam got a second hit in the game, Beth sent another Memo up to the clubhouse, where Rach was playing cards with Carlos Guillen, requesting balloons be ordered.

“I have programmed the number of Ghetto Cub in the fax machine,” Rach said.

Beth later tried to fax Ghetto Cub, but her failings with fax machines became readily apparently, so she ended up calling Ghetto Cub to tell them Mrs. Restovich, wife of hitting coach Michael Restovich, would be picking up the cupcakes and balloons.

Mrs. Restovich met the team at the airport when they returned to Minneapolis, and a party was held on the bus taking them back to Sass Stadium. Unlike most teams, Sassians prefer to drive to Sass Stadium and take the team bus to and from the airport.

“We are always anxious to get home after a long road trip, but it’s also kinda like a time when we can spend a little bit of decompression time between being on the road and at home. It’s a little time to adjust. Besides, Carlos S. [Silva] gets silly when he’s tired late at night, and that’s just something that shouldn’t be missed,” sass reliever Julio Mateo said.

Winning: Dawn tapped Beth on the shoulder late in the game on Thursday. “We’ve moved ahead of Ryan,” she said.

Indeed, with the surge last night, the Here for the Sass team did move ahead of Gassner’s All-stars, managed by Ryan, in the BFL. Although the rankings are never final until the series is final, the Sass were happy for the small, one-day victory.

“If only we can keep up this hitting and pitching stuff,” Beth said, “I know the boys like the weekends off--just like a regular job. I’ve told them they have to work overtime this weekend, so I’m hoping that works.”

Beth and Dawn have promised to get Sass DL Vanilla ice cream in the locker room if the Sass win over Gassner’s All-stars and move up in the rankings.

Coming up: Tonight, Aaron Harang will take the mound, hoping for the first win by a Sass starting pitcher. All three previous starters had quality starts, but none have been able to pick up the win, due to some bullpen meltdowns. Saturday will see Chan Ho Park facing Gassner’s All-stars for the first time this season.

Sunday will be an off-day for the starting pitching, who will have put in enough work for the week. If relief pitchers are unavailable to start, T. will take the mound, showing off her mad softball pitching skills.

Is this really a good idea? I've had the DL Vanilla. It's good stuff. What if the guys decide they like it so much that they become careless with the bubble-wrap so that they can go to Nice for more ice cream?

Rach-You bring up a good point I never thought of. On the other hand, our guys are going to the DL anyway, and some of them even come back...so maybe if they know they'll get it here sometimes as a treat, they'll keep playing well?
